Siobhan MacKenzie

A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of meeting and working with Siobhan at the beautiful Enterkine House Hotel in Ayrshire.

Siobhan is one of Scotland’s leading new young fashion designers. Having left University with a First Class BA Honours degree in Fashion Design and Production, she started her own business in bespoke and contemporary kilts. Siobhan’s vision is to progress something as distinctively beautiful as the kilt and tartan forward within the fashion world and bring Scottish Dress into the 21st century by breaking the rules of tradition with truly innovative bespoke and contemporary kilts.

Born and raised in the Highlands of Scotland, she used her Highland roots and her clan, Mackenzie, as the inspiration for her Graduate Collection where she designed and manufactured five full dress contemporary kilt outfits and one woman’s statement tartan gown. This led her to winning the ‘Lectra Kaledo Style’ award. She then undertook a six month internship at Glenisla Kilts where she learnt the art of bespoke kilt making. After graduating, she started her own business in bespoke and contemporary kilts.

Her unique design recently won the prestigious “Greyfriars Award” which attracted entries from worldwide designers. Entering this competition meant she would have a platform to show off her designs and the concept behind her brand. Earlier this year, she designed Miss Scotland’s gown at the Miss World pageant.

Our little collaboration was to showcase a few of her stunning collection of bespoke and contemporary women’s kilts.
