la & nyc

I had the great fortune in early April to visit Los Angeles and New York City for some work, networking and lots of fun.

Following the success of last years Scot Street Style “Gathering” in Brooklyn, Gordon (the main dude) felt we should take it further afield, so LA seemed like a damn fine choice.

We held our inaugural LA Gathering at a seriously cool bar, Now Boarding in West Hollywood. We were blown away by the people that turned up to support us and to be part of our growing, global creative community. Meeting people who were our “social media” friends for the first time in person was amazing. The camaraderie and friendships that were cemented over the few days we were there, I know will last a lifetime. Special praise goes out to our host and friend Brad Wilson for looking after us so well.

Leaving the sunshine of LA to head up to the cold, wind, sleet and rain of NYC was a bit of a shock to the system, but again, it was so worth it.

As like last year, the brilliant folks at Kinfolk in Williamsburg hosted our second Brooklyn Gathering. Last years was incredible, but this one took it to a new level. Great to see so many friends old and new there joining us in our creative celebrations.

Prior to the event, we got the chance to meet the team at Athletics in Brooklyn. These guys seriously bring creativity to their design agency and it was a great platform for Gordon from Scot Street Style, Siobhan from Siobhan MacKenzie Kilts and Vixy from Stewart Christie & Co to share the vision and passion they have for design, fashion and the creativity that is emanating from Scotland.

Then finally it was on to the highlight of the trip, the parade down 6th Avenue as part of New York’s Tartan week. Sadly the weather wasn’t that kind to us this year, felt more like a wild January day in Scotland…but hey, we did get to go up top of the bus that was holding the parades Grand Master, Sam Heughan of Outlander fame….it was a bugger though when I went to take the shot of him holding our banner and my camera battery ran out, ha…thank god for iPhones 🙂

To Kari, thank you for looking after me in New York….you’re nuts….and a great friend 🙂

Incredible adventure…more again next year please.
