A couple of weeks ago I did something that I’d been talking about for years. Took a road trip up to the far North of Scotland and man what a trip it was.

The North Coast 500 isn’t something new, the roads have been there for years. I guess some clever tourist/marketing person came up with the idea to promote the Highlands in the same way that Route 66 has become synonymous with road trips across America….it sure is working!!!

I do like a bit of comfort, so I wasn’t ready to rough it by camping, going on a motorbike or cycling it….passed so may people cycling it, must be nuts. I rented a posh camper van from the good folks at BC Motor Homes in Ayr. Never done it before, so didn’t really know what to expect.

Pretty much took the route that the website suggested. Started out from Inverness to head across towards Applecross via the Bealach na Ba, supposedly the highest Road in Britain…that was fun in a camper van 🙂

Won’t bore you with every place on the route, suffice to say that in the 5 days that it took to complete the route, I saw the most amazing scenery, landscapes, beaches, mountains…everything that is best about the beauty of Scotland….and all managed without a scratch on the van 🙂

If you haven’t been that far north or done this route, put it on your bucket list, you will not be disappointed.
